Del.icio.us

There is not much to say about my adventure with Del.icio.us, as I could not even access it. My attempts to sign up with the site ended with no success. I was able to get the sign up sheet which asked the normal criteria of submitting my name and creation of a user name and password. As I moved my mouse to the enter my name, the screen would turn white and disappear. I tried on multiple occasions during the week and it would do the same thing. I thought at first it was my internet acting up, but I dispelled that idea after many attempts at different times. I will not be pursuing this any further.

A new experience with Flickr

I recently dabbled with Flickr and I must say that it was not as easy as I expected it to be. I first went to "create" and after awhile learned that this was for creating to print. Then after discovering that I was in the wrong area for what I was intending to do, I then attempted to upload three photos and each one that I wanted to upload were to large. They seem to have an upload requirement that I think is rather small, compared to what I am used to. I do think that I will be exploring this further for my use with my business. It sort of reminds me of Instagram, which I do use on a regular basis.

Apache Open Office

I have to say that I was amazed with this one. The download went through very easily and quite fast. When I opened it, it somewhat resembled Microsoft Word, however there were buttons not only along the top of the page, but along side the right hand side. It was quite easy to understand as I hovered over each button. I use Word and Excel a tremendous amount of time, so it would have to fill some pretty big shoes with those two.

As I was looking to upload the Apache logo pictured above, it took me quite a while to find the image button. On Word, I am quite familiar with it as you go to insert, then select the picture button and you are on your way. With Open Office, I searched around and when I couldn't find a short cut, I went to insert and then had to search along the drop down for the appropriate course of action. I am sure it will get easier and better once I become more familiar with it. The main plus for this is the price since the cost of Office programs are through the roof. I ended up going back to 2007 Office because it seems to run the best on my 2 year old laptop, Amazing isn't it? I am going to have to get to know this program better real soon.

Gimp Shop Image Editor

I downloaded Gimp Shop image editor and from what I remember about Adobe Photoshop, it is comparable. I have not used Photoshop in awhile and I may be wrong. When I looked at all the options one has to create or manipulate pictures, it can be quite overwhelming. I personally use Pic Monkey for all by photo editing and to be honest with you, it is a lot easier. Granted, it isn't involved as much as Gimp Shop and you cannot do everything to the extent that you can with Gimp Shop, but for what I use it for, it is just enough. For someone who is really interested in all the gadgets and whistles, this would be perfect and the price cannot be beat as it is free. I am definitely going to save this one on my computer and mess around with it when time permits. I would love to be able to learn this software inside and out.

Mozilla Firefox

I recently took the plunge away from my Google Chrome and installed Mozilla's Firefox browser. I was a little skeptical and change does not often affect me too well. It was quite fast and easy to download and all my bookmarks were easily transferred over to the new browser. I opened one of the bookmarks that I frequent quite often and found it to be a little slower opening up than Chrome would have. I decided to see it maybe it was just a fluke and opened another popular site and it opened right up, so we will blame that first one on the internet speed. As with any new change, I had to get used to where everything was located as with my browser that I currently use, I have everything in its own little space, categorized by ease of use. Or maybe it is just the compulsive disorder that is in me at times. As I opened another tab, there were boxes that had some of the sites that I frequent and there was nothing in them. All of a sudden they started displaying pictures, so this tells me that the download speed is not as fast as Google Chrome after all. Anyway, this was a good experience and I look forward to getting to know Firefox more in the next few days.

Web 2.0 in Motion

I really liked Mark Zuckerberg's take on email versus other online communication methods.

Mashable Uncovered

Mashable is a very interesting blog that is right up my alley. The first thing that caught my eye was the colorful menagerie of photos. It was very visually appealing and looks like a place that I would like to spend some time. The top navigation section divides topics for ease of selection and I immediately noticed social media as this is an interest of mine. As you move your cursor over it, a drop down appeared with different social media sites to chose from. This gives you a choice prior to clicking and going to the site itself. I really liked this feature that they offer. I was also really impressed that they offered Mashable here in the US, but also in other countries such as Asia, Australia, France, India and the UK. I am going to have to bookmark this site to save for later.

A Tech Crunch Review

Upon arriving a the Tech Crunch Blog, I immediately noticed a tremendous amount of information and blog posts. The variety of posts, which are written by a slew of different writers, was almost overwhelming. But as I started scrolling, I discovered that there is just about something for everyone depending on your taste in different topics. After clicking on the "popular" tab and scrolling down the blog's page, I quickly grabbed a hold of an interesting topic of Why Airlines Overbook Flights. This has often puzzled me, so it was nice to finally come to an understanding of why this occurs. Want up to date and recent posts? You can just click on the "latest" tab and get fresh content that was just posted. Check them out when you get the time. I am sure you will find something that interests you.

Skype

I noticed that I had Skype already on my laptop but have never used it. Now I can see why. I started by watching the Youtube video on how to...
